For our Study, we began by designing several survey questionnaires: an opening demographic questionnaire followed by a series of questionnaires designed to elicit information about student writing practices and attitudes. We administered these surveys during each year of the Study. In addition, we carried out interviews with a sub-group of students, talking with them at length at least once each year and then transcribing the interviews for analysis. Once data collection was complete, we began coding the 15,000 texts in our database, a process which will take six to eight months. Finally, we will be carrying out textual analyses, using methods drawn from rhetorical and discourse analysis, in order to complete a number of case studies of participant writers.
